Why is it that my kids are always on their worst behavior when their Dad is gone?! I feel like all I ever hear is whining or fighting.......or doooooonnnnnne pooooooping! Seriously, will someone come be my butt wiper for the next month? Well, not my butt but the 2 kids that take dumps 5 times a day (first one at 5am, mind you) and refuse to wipe themselves. For the love! It will be a monumental day when they decide they are big enough to wipe themselves.
And spiders. Who wants to come deal with them for me? Surprisingly I've gotten pretty used to them after living here for 2 years. Used to be terrified. I don't mind living with them so much now. I'd rather not, but it's part of it I guess. I just don't like killing them, because when I do I swat them with all I've got to make sure they are very dead and guts go everywhere. That's the part I don't like.......and why I just let them be. Buttttttt, I have a 3 year old boy that screams like a girl every time he sees even the tiniest little spider. Just today, (insert girly scream) "Mom, there's a spider on the stairs." Me: "So walk around it." Him: "But it's gonna eat me!!!" Clearly he spends too much time with girls.
It's going to be a fun month!
We don't let the kids bathe together anymore. Well, usually. But when Daddy's gone sometimes it's just easier to put them in together.....go do some laundry....and then come help them finish up. That's just what I did the other night and came in to this. At least they know how to make me smile.
And a few more random photos just because.
Avery at her school's Spring Fling. Can you guess what she is? I had no clue what she was and I couldn't help but laugh because she matched Blake's cupcake.
She was supposed to be a frog. I did feel bad for poking fun and hope that the lady that painted her face didn't hear me. This is why I am so serious all the time. I don't like hurting other people's feelings. :(
And a couple of Blake at his best buddy's birthday party yesterday.
You can tell his attitude has not been the best in the first picture. And the 2nd picture, is the kids going back to turn off the blower to the slide. Ornery kids!!!
Happy Anniversary to my guy! I have no doubt that this will be a great year, if not the best yet. 11 is "our" number. We were both #11 in soccer and that's really when he first noticed me. He was a bit of a "bad boy" and got me into some trouble (a couple of times) but I knew deep down that he was a "good guy." I was more than right. He has the biggest, most giving heart! Always thinking of others before himself, the best Dad and husband anyone could ever ask for. I am so lucky that he's mine!
Oh, what a soccer season! We moved Avery up a year group this year so the girls could be on the same team. It was so crazy last year being at the soccer fields 4 nights a week. Derek coached again which the girls really enjoy. The assistant coach was hardly ever there so I pretty much felt like a coach. In fact, I had to coach tonight because Derek is out of town and the other coach didn't come. Good thing I planned on her not coming and made up a line-up beforehand otherwise it would have been even crazier than it was. Tonight actually may have been their best night though. All in all, it was a rough season. Very little experience, didn't win a game, didn't even score a single goal. I know our girls were heartbroken and it can be so frustrating. I just hope that everyone had fun and now has a better understanding of the basic fundamentals of soccer. I didn't take too many pictures this year, but here are a few.
The best picture from the season is right here though. Avery's sweet, thoughtful, amazing teacher took time out of her evening to come and cheer her on. To prove even more how amazing she is, she came on a school night........in the pouring.down.rain!!!! Who does that?! Only the best.
I am so excited to go through my pictures, I figured I'd just post my favorites on the blog as I go through them. I have a feeling there will be ALOT! Switzerland is so incredibly beautiful. We had such a great time even though it's the same old story.....2 of the kids were sick. I seriously can't remember our last getaway without a sick kid. Blake ended up with a fever the first night and I think he was even hallucinating some. I was up quite a bit with him and he was saying some wild things! The rest of the trip, he didn't have much of a voice. Avery started complaining that her neck hurt and was quite miserable for most of the trip, even threw up yesterday. She complained (and I don't blame her) when we were hiking but was absolutely fine when we were doing the "fun" stuff.
On to the pictures! Where we stayed........we stayed way up in the mountains in a little village called Greich. We could drive up to the edge of the village, but then we would have to walk to the end of the road down to our chalet. There is also a cable car, but it was shut down for maintenance while we were there. The views from our place were stunning!!

More views from the village
This was the barn right behind our chalet. Adorned with sheep skulls. Kinda creepy.
Village from afar (taken on one of our hikes)
Fun on the village playground. This was the coolest zipline. Super fast going down the mountain!
{Day 1 -- Lucerne}
We flew into Basel and drove straight to Lucerne. It started out as a beautiful day but right before we got to Lucerne it started raining. We knew it was in the forecast but still not a great start to our vacation. Because of the rain we didn't wander around as much as we (or I) would have liked.
Once we got over to the other side of the mountain (where our chalet was) the weather was perfect and it was about 10 degrees warmer. We found that to be the norm each time we traveled back and forth over the mountain.
{Day 2 -- Zermatt/Matterhorn}
Took the train to Zermatt. Cool ski town. If only we had known that you can ski/snowboard 365 days of the year there!! We wanted to take the cable car up to a good view point of Matterhorn but it was so expensive (everything was) and there was a lot of cloud coverage that day so we skipped it.

So excited to find some snow
Matterhorn
We hiked to a gorge and then once we got there found out it was closed. We had passed a ropes course on the way so we went back to try that out. Blake chickened out and I was supposed to go with him so we didn't get to do it, but Derek and the girls did. It was a 3+ hour ordeal! The girls were so scared (I don't blame them) but it was also pretty comical.
Getting geared up
Then Derek did some harder courses on his own.
{Day 3 -- Bettmeralp}
We had a hard time deciding what we were going to do this day. We ended up deciding on taking a cable car up to the Aletsch Glacier. We got there and access to the glacier was closed. Go figure! We decided to go ahead and take the cable car up to the ski village of Bettmeralp because we saw a lot of people getting on and off so we figured it must be a neat place. We get up there and have no idea where all the people went or were coming from because the place was practically deserted! We hiked to a lake, found some snow to play in and just took in the amazing views.
Since they survived the hike to the lake they were rewarded with a Kinder egg.
Filling up our water bottles. Hey, we didn't die so I guess it was okay!
Forgot, before heading up we had a picnic lunch at a park (turned out to be a school playground).
{Day 4 -- Oeschinensee}
I think this day ended up being everyone's favorite! Toboggan runs, hike to a beautiful lake and waterfall, picnic lunch. Just perfect!
