Mom & Dad Visit! ~ July 2015

This month has been a great one! The best part were the nearly 2 weeks that my Mom and Dad took off to travel here and visit us!!! I am a planner and let me tell you I was stressing over what sites to take them to and what to skip out on. Also wondering if we should plan more down days or try to squeeze in as much as possible. I still don't know if I made the right decisions or not. I look back and I know that we wore my parents out. And I feel bad about that! It was just always in the back of my mind how much they were sacrificing by coming out here and I wanted them to have the memories (ones that they can't have made with us anywhere else) to take back with them. I hope they had a great time and we didn't exhaust them too much!!!

As Allie said in the last post, it was so great seeing them when they pulled up with Derek. I think we all had butterflies in our stomach and were all holding back tears of joy! We didn't do much that first day except show them around the base and then around our home.

Of course the kids had to open up their birthday presents. They had sent some early and they had been begging to open them for months!!

The next day we went Ely. We walked around the market and then went to the cathedral (which you have to pay to go into now. When we first went there 2 years ago we didn't have to pay!)

Adding yarn to the prayer wall.

Then we went to Peacock's to have a traditional afternoon tea. We sat at the table looking at the menu FOREVER! No one was making any decisions and I just knew that the menu didn't sound appetizing to anyone. HA! So, I suggested that we just get a dessert and then we could go somewhere else for lunch. I think everyone was very relieved! :)

We never did eat anything. My Dad made the comment that he figured he'd lose some weight while he was here! Brits aren't known for their food. We did go back home and walked to the village playground, through the church grounds and back through the fields to our house. While at the playground we shot off some rockets and then after dinner we roasted 'sh'marshmallows.

The next day was one of my favorites! We went to Castle Acre Priory. We had a lot of fun playing hide-and-seek!!!

"They are coming! Get down!!!"

"Quick, over here so they don't see us! Stay down!"

Avery now is not the time to be trying to make us laugh! We have to be quiet.

By this point the kids were STARVING! We drove to Sandringham, the Queens Winter home, and had a picnic lunch at the playground.

Then we went to the gardens. I could have walked around there all day! So beautiful!!

This was one of our warmest days. The kids had a blast running through the sprinklers.

Cooling off with some apple juice.

Then we finished the evening in King's Lynn with dinner at Nando's. We made sure to reserve the awesome Vault Room!

Saturday was Cambridge. Another hot day! It was our first time punting!! We had the best guide!
And somehow Derek was able to talk them down to £8 per person which is a crazy good discount compared to what they are asking.

This was followed by a lovely lunch at The Eagle.
And a walk around town.

This next day we started to travel a little bit further away. We definitely tried to cram way to much into this day. We needed more time to see everything! First stop was Monkey Forest in Stoke on Trent.

Then we went way out of our way for lunch (which took away a bunch of our time) but that's okay because I think this was Mom and Dad's favorite meal. Frankie & Benny's.
Then back to Trentham Estate & Gardens. Another place I really love and could walk around for hours.

Of course we did a family barefoot walk.

Cheaters!!

Then we were off to Warwick Castle for glamping. This ended up being a highlight, I think for all of us! Well worth it!

They have nightly activities for the kiddos and they had a blast, for the most part, doing them!!

They started out with Jester School. Blake is quite the jester.

Then Have-A-Go Archery

And finally Knight School.

The next morning we went to Warwick Castle and spent the entire day there.....in the rain.

A nice, dry and enjoyable lunch.

Thursday was Leeds Castle.

Me giving directions

Maze & Grotto

Friday was supposed to be Belgium. I think I was looking most forward to this. I just love Ghent and Bruges!! I wanted their amazing waffles and chocolate and those places are just so charming! Something was going on and the ferry was delayed 2 hours. It was only a day trip for us so by the time we got across the channel, drove to our destination we'd only have about 4 hours to explore before we would need to head back to catch the ferry back over to England. So we decided not to do it. Derek ended up calling and he was able to apply our journey to another date. I set out on a search for places to go. Mom and I really wanted somewhere quaint. I had always wanted to go to Rye after seeing a picture of Mermaid Street somewhere. There really wasn't much to the village other than that street. It was a magical street though!

We spent the last 2 1/2 days in London. This is where I think the exhaustion really set in. London is a BIG city. We were there on the weekend and it was crowded. It wasn't overly hot out, but hot enough....especially when underground where there is no ventilation. There was a lot of walking. Pretty sure my parents hated London. At least they can say they've been there. :) :) :)

Playing at Princess Diana Memorial Park

Kensington Palace

Underground
London Eye
Big Ben

Saving us a bench!

We spent awhile here. Avery started finding money under the benches. Smart girl! Then the kids had a great time finding money. I think it was £5.56 in all that they found!!

We also saw some other interesting things in the park. Turns out, we have friends that do the same thing. Who knew?!?

Buckingham Palace
While walking to our next destination. Blake was in car heaven!!

Then Covent Garden for lunch, playing in the fountain, watching performers, M&M world and Souvenir shopping. Finished the night with an awesome show....STOMP!

My favorite meal.

The next day...Mom & Dad's last day, we saw The Lion King. (quite disappointing)

Our tube entertainment

Derek and I ended up having a Date Night this night. Only it was cut short because I did not feel good at all. :( Super sad because that was our first date night out without kids in 14 months! We took some selfies to prove we were on a date. It's okay to laugh....we are still selfie newbies.

Allie was so disappointed we weren't gone a long time. She was so excited for us to go on a date!! She had been trying for several nights to get us to go. She was practically pushing us out the door. When we got back someone asked what we did. When we were finished she very matter of factly said, "and you kissed a lot!!" We all laughed and said, "what makes you think that?!"  "That;s what you are supposed to do on dates!!!" Where does she get these ideas from!!??

And lastly, my girl....she can be so ornery. I slept with her while my parents were in our bed and I just loved watching this girl sleep. So precious!

And this was another fun night. One of the days we stayed home and played games for the evening. It was so fun....and funny! Avery was killin' it!!

I liked -- no, I loved Mony and Papa visiting! We had a lot of fun. My favorite thing we did while they were here was glamping at Warwick Castle.....actually no, my favorite thing was seeing them when they first got to base. My Mom is going to do a big post on their visit so you can watch for that later. We miss them a lot and wish they were still here.

After Mony and Papa left we were going to go to Legoland but Mom wasn't feeling good and it was going to rain so we went home. I didn't keep a diary of all that we did during the week but this is what I can remember:

Avery's teacher had a picnic with us at the park. She brought her dog Sammi. She is cute! We brought Sammi a squeaky soccer ball to play with. We had fun playing with her and Mrs. Kautz.  Mrs. Kautz brought some yummy treats to share.

Friday we cleaned the church and had dinner with the Johnsons after. I played with the bunny most of the time. Our friends also came over during the day. Melissa came to visit teach Mom. It took a long time for them to actually get to the lesson. We put on some costumes for them and had them judge us.

Saturday was Averi's birthday party. It was at Fun 2 Play. I got a free slushie from one of the worker ladies for cleaning up the balls. We had fun and got really sweaty.

Sunday we went to church!

Monday we stayed home and I made a doctor's office. When Blake woke up this morning he said, "Allie Dr. open!" I said, "not yet!" I was still tired. The rest of the day we went with Mom visiting teaching and then she dropped us off at Kiera's house and her Mom took us to Monsters. We didn't want to leave!

Rainy day painting fun.

June 29, 2015
Today Avery and I had soccer camp it is 9:00 to 12:00.It is 3 hours long. Mom left us, but once we started camp it got fun and even more fun!!! Avery was happy to see Mrs. Kautz who also ended up being Avery's coach at camp. She loves her! Mom got us sandwiches at Subway. Then we went to a doctor appointment. My mom whispered to me "we will put out the pool".Once I heard that I got Blake to sleep and Avery I played in the pool. For dinner,  we had poppies. (Popeyes)

June 30,2015
Soccer camp again the ball got kicked in my face. Ate lunch with daddy at Mildenhall. When we got home we splashed and swam in the pool and went down the slide a lot. Mom was cleaning the house. Later of course we had to watch t.v. and yes it was Scooby Doo. For dinner, we had steak and potatoes.

July 1, 2015
Had soccer camp, yes again.we were supposed to meet dad for lunch again but he had an emergency at work and Blake said, "someone die?" and of course we said "no". When we got home again we swam in the pool. Dad came home; we were cleaning. For dinner we got to have pizza.

July 2, 2015
Last day of soccer camp. Came home. Me, Avery and Blake used chalk and drew a picture. We watched Spaceballs. It was making fun of Star Wars.

July 3, 2015
We went to the beach! Avery and me played wet sand fight. For lunch we had sandwiches and ice cream. After that we went shopping; got cookies! When we got home we ate potato soup. After we finished we made a fire and roasted marshmallows.

July 4, 2015
We went on a bike ride. I got too close to the wheel, fell off. I got a swollen lip, knee and elbow. When we got home we played outside. I took a nap in the hammock. Then when we came in I was typing this.

July 5, 2015
Avery, Dad & Blake went to church. Mom and I stayed home. I was embarrassed for people to see me and my swollen lip.

July 6, 2015
We shopped and shopped and shopped and shopped. In between shopping we went to a park in Kings Lynn. Then we came home and played outside. Mom and Dad worked on projects. We watched the Minions movie before going to bed.

(I love how she mostly wrote about food! ha)

Summer Break - Week 2

We haven't been up to a whole lot but I will quickly recap the little bit that we have done.

{Father's Day}
Derek was away for Father's Day so we tried to recreate our chalk drawing that we did a couple years ago.

We went to a movie with friends. We saw Inside Out, which I must say was a deep movie. It really makes you think and it was actually a good teaching opportunity to help teach the kids, especially Avery, about emotions and how we can control them. I wasn't completely sure she would understand but she did!

We settled into more of a routine that 2nd week. The girls love following it! I was happy to be able to sit down every day and get some school work in.

Playing POP!

Blake sorting his cars by color

It drizzled one evening and I told the kids to go out and play in it. Avery knocked on the door. She had made herself an umbrella.

We also went to High Lodge one day with friends. Just realizing that I didn't take any pictures. I did take a few videos of Blake on the zipline that were super cute.

Fast forward to this week. It has been a hot week with lots of beautiful sunshine! I am loving it!! The girls went to a church soccer camp and just had the best time. Always came home with big smiles on their faces. Then we would come home and get in the pool. I'm not going into much detail because for the rest of the summer our blog posts will be done by Allie! It is her summer writing assignment that I created and she loves the idea and is very excited about it. She's starting with this week and I think she decided she would do her posts on Saturdays or Sundays. So stay tuned!!

I will end this blog post with a pic of the kids in the pool. I find Blake quite disturbing in his European - esque swimsuit. I am getting rid of it pronto!! He found it quite amusing.
