Pumpkin Head

We never got around to carving our pumpkins this year. We had a night planned for a pumpkin carving contest, but that was suppose to be the night after the dreaded bike accident. Sooo, we had to cancel that and we never got around to it because we've all been under the weather. (We had planned on going to Corpus Christi today, but decided it would be best to try and get some rest and recuperate - pretty bummed.....it would have been fun, but we still have plenty of opportunities for it).
Anyway, so Mony & Papa sent a fun Halloween package to the girls and it had a these Potato Head type things in them to decorate the pumpkins........so that's what we did this year!
Thank you Allie & Avery's Mony & Papa!
they picked out the pieces themselves, but needed help putting them in. In their defense, it wasn't easy!

Trunk or Treat

This year for Halloween we had a butterfly, a spider and two bunny fairies. The girls had fun dressing up in the costumes a few days ahead of time. They even went to a story time at Barnes & Noble in their costumes (Avery was a fairy princess that day........wish I would have taken a pic of that). Trunk or Treat was on Friday night. After going around to all of the cars for candy we went inside for a carnival. Allie got her face painted and asked for a butterfly.......as you can see it matched her costume just perfectly. We decided to stay in on Halloween night this year. We set out a big bowl of candy for trick or treaters with a sign that said to take just one piece. Well, either we had a LOT of trick or treaters or they were taking handfuls because we were out of candy super fast. That just about sums up Halloween 2010 for us!

Pumpkin Painting

We had some friends over Monday night for some pumpkin painting. It was a lot of fun! 4 families......8 adults and 11 kids. All of the kids got along great!

Boerne, TX

Boerne is a little town Northwest of us. There are a couple caves there and so we thought we'd go visit one after we had some rest from the 1/2 marathon on Saturday. We decided to try and visit Cascade Caverns.....but when we got there the guides had already left for the day. Bummer! It's only about a 25-30 minute drive so it wasn't that big of a deal, but since we were already there we thought we'd try and find something to do. We decided on Cibolo Creek Nature Preserve - - because it was free. When we got there it didn't look like it was going to be much. We took off on a little hike and ended up at the Cibolo Creek. It was soooo pretty! It was just a neat little area and, of course, we had to play in the water for a while! Ended up being a fun little trip.

Downtown

Last Friday was 1/2 day at school. We picked the girls up and headed downtown to the San Antonio Children's Museum. The girls had a blast!
the biggest play grocery store I've ever seen!

they are in a bubble!
Afterwards the boys met up with us for a walk around downtown, some splashing in the fountains and dinner along the River Walk. We ate at the famous County Line BBQ joint.

Fun With Cousins

Hide & Seek is a favorite around here. We found the girls giggling in the pantry!
Dress up is another favorite
You'll find us in the backyard just about every night. Unfortunately Avery hasn't quite realized that she can't walk behind or in front of the swings.
Time to relax on a beautiful night

Happenings.....

We've had a lot going on this past month.......hence the lack of updates. Here's a little taste of what we've done this month:
  • October 2nd was Derek's birthday........we celebrated with ice cream cake from his fav place, DQ. We also had a garage sale.
  • October 3rd TAKK arrived. Our girls were beyond excited!!
  • October 4th we left for Indiana and spent 6 days there (really 2 of them were traveling since we drove the 19 hours). It was a very busy trip.....We were going for my brother's wedding. Congrats Bryan and Kim!! It was a beautiful wedding.
I was exhausted after the car trip. That next morning Avery woke up super early. I stayed up with her for a little bit and then I woke up my Mom & Dad to take care of her so I could get some rest. This is how I found them when I got up later. :)
When we got back from Indiana I found a package waiting for me.........
I was super excited! Why was I so excited about cleaning supplies?? Well, this was a FREE sample I sent for.....never did I think it would be such a BIG sample.....33 lbs worth of cleaning supplies!

  • School
~Allie & Abby are going to the same school. They love it when they get to see each other at school functions and when their classes line up next to one another at the end of the day.
~Last week I dropped Allie off at school........and got a phone call from the school nurse about an hour later saying she had been throwing up. I felt so bad for Allie!!
~ That same day we had parent teacher conference (I drove to the school a lot that day!). Allie is doing great - a little above average according to her teacher. She thinks she is ready to start reading!
    Things to work on: recognizing the letters S, Z, D, J, V, U and W.
~ I'm one of the room mom's for her class so that's pretty fun!

  • Sea World
The girls and I decided to take advantage of our memberships and of the park being open on Friday's this month.....so we went a couple weeks ago after school. There were lots of scary decorations up so it wasn't the greatest experience.......and we forgot our wagon so we were exhausted afterwards too. We only went to one show.......

    • Races
~ 2 weeks ago Derek and Tami were both in a triathlon. Derek's team came in 4th in the all male Xtreme division (they were 20 seconds behind 3rd place). Tami's team came in 2nd in the all female Xtreme division.
~ This past weekend Derek ran a 1/2 marathon!

More to come!!!

What Happened to Texas?!

Last Monday morning the girls and I walked out the front door dressed in our usual shorts and t-shirts. Allie immediately exlaimed, "What happened to Texas!!!??" The weather had changed quite a bit. It was probably low 80's with a little bit of a breeze. Quite nice actually!
I just love the little sayings she comes up with. They make me smile. We wanted to get this written down before we forget it. Oh, and don't worry...it still gets into the 90's here, just not quite as humid as it was.

Here's some pics of the girls from the last couple of days.....

Hanging out with Mommy while Allie's at school

Eating ice cream on the deck -- we're having beautiful evenings here!

**Blogger isn't letting me upload photos right now so I'll have to try and post more later!**
